Modes of Admission
There are basically three modes of entry into the B.Sc programme.
a. Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME)
b. Direct Entry (DE)
c. Inter-University Transfer (IUT)
The ‘’a and b’’ above are achieved by application to the university through Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Candidates must satisfy the minimum university and departmental entry requirements as contained in the university senate approved entry requirements and JAMB brochure (visit, www.unn.edu.ng). The UTME candidates should also sit for the UTME and Post-UTME and ensure that they write the required subjects for their desired course of study. The DE candidates should also sit for the interview of the university/department.
The Inter-University Transfer (IUT) can be obtained by direct application to the University as specified in the Approved Guidelines for Inter-University Transfer (visit, www.unn.edu.ng). Candidates applying through this means shall also satisfy the minimum university and departmental entry requirements.
Entry Requirements
All candidates seeking admission to University of Nigeria must satisfy the minimum university entry requirements of five (5) ordinary level credits in not more than two (2) sittings including credit passes in English Language and a science subject in addition to the departmental entry requirements. Candidates must also ensure that their ordinary or advanced level qualifying results are not obtained after May/June/July of their admission year. Ordinary level results of any examination registered for after taking UTME constitute Post Admission Qualification results and are not acceptable to the university for the purpose of admission of students. For direct entry candidates, application for admission into the university through JAMB should not be made with awaiting results. Candidates who do not possess the Direct entry requirements in addition to their O’ Level requirements before application to JAMB for admission will be disqualified for Direct entry admission. The Admissions Office withdraws the provisional admission granted to admitted candidates if they are found to be deficient in their departmental entry requirements.
Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME): To be admitted under this mode, candidates are required to possess the senior secondary school certificate (SSCE) or the General Certificate of Education (GCE) ordinary level or its equivalent with credit in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Economics plus any one of the following; Commerce, Geography, Government or Accounting.
Direct Entry (DE): To be admitted under this mode, candidates are required to possess the senior secondary school certificate (SSCE) or the General Certificate of Education (GCE) ordinary level or its equivalent with credit in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Economics plus any one of the following; Commerce, Geography or Government. In addition, candidates with Advanced level credit in Economics, Government, and Accounting are qualified to be admitted by direct entry mode. Also candidates with the Ordinary National Diploma (OND), National Certificate in Education or Higher National Diploma (HND) obtained from accredited Polytechnics, Colleges of Education or Institutes with upper credit level are qualified to be admitted by direct entry mode.
Course duration: Course duration for entry through Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is four (4) years, entry through direct entry with the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or National Certificate in Education in banking and finance is three (3) years, entry through direct entry with pass or third class B.Sc degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) with minimum of lower credit in banking and finance is two (2) years.
